Letters from the Conductor
Ardent,
I didn't receive health records for any of you, no. Your profiles were provided, but little else. As such, the lack of attention paid to your injuries was a pure oversight on my part.
May I ask why you're interested in Doktor Faustus? The irony isn't lost on me, but I'm wondering if there's another reason.
- Conductor

Ardent,
To answer your questions in order:
1. I actually couldn't tell you. I know it's been here for as long as I can remember, and I'm sure it's been around for far longer than that, but I'm not certain as to the age of the building itself. Well over one hundred years, though, I would imagine.
2. It wouldn't, no. Is Universal still complaining about such things? He seems very preoccupied with the lack of a dryer.
3. I was prepared for it to be a terrible mess. That was admittedly a different sort of mess than I was prepared for.
- Conductor
--
Ardent,
I've never been one to discourage asking questions if people have them.
1. Yes. I'd think it would be stranger if I weren't, wouldn't it?
2. Some things are more easily obtainable than others.
3. Well, again, it isn't as though I received detailed medical reports on the lot of you, either. And I'm not entirely sure there was much of a way to know that without being told directly, "if you stab me, I will explode into a massive dust cloud," by the woman herself.
- Conductor
--
Ardent,
1. That's true, I suppose. As it is, this place is somewhere I'm familiar with, but nowhere I have a great amount of affection for; I know it well enough but I'm not too attached to it.
2. It depends on what you want. Admittedly, machines like that would require a setup that doesn't already exist in that room - more elaborate water mains and the like, as well as more outlets for electrical power, I believe? - and while I'm flattered that you have so much faith in my abilities, I'm not a miracle worker. Chickens are easy; restocking what's already here is easy. Completely modifying the building...that would take time.
3. Somehow I doubt it as well. She was interesting, though, in a lot of ways, and I can appreciate that she put up as much of a fight as she did before...all of that.
- Conductor
--
Ardent,
The building hasn't been remodeled in quite some time, and unfortunately I'm not a contractor or an architect of any sort, either, so doing it myself isn't an option. And there's also the matter of time, as you've noted.
Things are as they are, and I'm willing to ensure that they're sufficient; things that come down to a matter of convenience are a different matter, however.
- Conductor
--
Ardent,
Seeing as I'm the one who stocked the library...perhaps it's just not my genre.
- Conductor
--
Ardent,
I'd imagine that most would think from the current situation that that's a safe assumption to make.
But I like them reasonably well; they're challenging, if done right.
- Conductor
--
Ardent,
Given your profession, I can't say that I'm entirely surprised - though I do have to wonder whether you ever find them gratingly unrealistic when compared to your job...?
- Conductor
--
Ardent,
Ah, I see... That sort of thing has always made things a little irritating for me, I think, I tend to get caught up on the differences between reality and what fiction is presenting as due process. It's a little easier if there's a time period discrepancy or if the entire thing is over-the-top in such a way that it effectively doesn't matter, but otherwise I tend to find it a little irritating.
I agree, though, some narrators can sell it a little better than others can.
- Conductor

Ardent,
One of Agatha Christie's, isn't he? I find him enjoyable enough, though I take up issue with the intentional misleading of the narrator sometimes; I believe that got better as more novels came out, however.
That said, he's not a bad choice.
- Conductor

Ardent,
It's difficult to say, really; I go through periods where I read everything, and then other days I find everything boring or frustratingly vague, regardless of genre. It really depends on my mood.
I tend to like some of the one-shots; And Then There Were None is good, though I think it may be in bad taste to really dwell on that one for terribly long here, isn't it.
- Conductor
--
Ardent,
Well, in hindsight there's always going to be something in poor taste about discussing murder mysteries in a setting like this, isn't there? At least it's not just me.
It's been a while since I've done any reading for pleasure, admittedly; it's been one of those dry periods I mentioned, with regards to that. Perhaps I ought to take it up again sometime.
- Conductor
--
Ardent,
That depends on what you mean by "relationship with" - it isn't the God I've spoken about before to a few people, though, no.
- Conductor
--
Ardent,
Oh, I think it would be quite offended if I referred to it as an attack dog of any sort - it's very definitely sapient. I didn't create it, either, to head off that question; it's one I've gotten from time to time recently.

Ardent,
Several years now; we were introduced by a mutual acquaintance.
